Transworld’s Oracle Cloud Success Story

From Manual Processes to Automation

Business Overview:

Transworld Group is a multinational shipping and logistics company headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With services spanning containerized, bulk, and tanker cargo transportation, the group also operates extensively in third-party logistics (3PL), freight forwarding, cold chain logistics, and warehousing.

As a freight forwarding and 3PL provider, Transworld stores inventory for its customers and manages cross-border and cross-continental shipping through its own shipping liners. Their technology landscape includes Oracle Transportation Management (OTM), Oracle Cloud WMS, Oracle Fusion ERP (Finance module), Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) – as their middleware solution.

Line of Business:

  • Third-party logistics (3PL), Freight Forwarding, Cold Chain Logistics and Warehousing

Applications in Scope:

  • Oracle Cloud WMS
  • Oracle TMS (OTM)
  • Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC)
  • Oracle Fusion Finance

ERP System:

  • Oracle Fusion

Project Location:

  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Business Challenges:

Transworld operates a primary warehouse in JAFZA, along with several secondary warehouses across the region. Although they already used OTM and Oracle WMS, they were facing several operational challenges that needed expert intervention.

Key issues included:

  • Inaccurate warehouse data and inventory discrepancies
  • Manual intervention in billing processes that slowed down operations and impacted customer satisfaction. Over 60% of their customer billing was still handled manually
  • Need for WMS integration with their CBM (Cubic Meter) billing model, which charges customers based on inventory volume stored
  • They had an existing CBM based billing tool which need to integrate properly with WMS. Here the data accuracy is crucial for billing their customers based on inventory level.
  • This tool lacked flexibility to handle a high volume of diverse contracts and billing scenarios.

Transworld sought a consulting partner with deep hands-on expertise in Oracle WMS & Oracle OIC with deep integration expertise on integrating Oracle Fusion apps, both in configuration and process optimization. After a thorough vetting process, they’ve shortlisted ITOrizon as an ideal partner to fulfill their business vision based on our customer references and track records.

ITOrizon Solution:

ITOrizon’s scope was focused on enhancing employee productivity, streamlining logistics processes, and improving reporting accuracy.

1. Master Data Correction

  • ITOrizon standardized location and item master data by reconciling warehouse capacity with system records, aligning SOPs to prevent future mismatches, unifying UOM setups, and mapping items to the correct storage environments
  • Standardized UOM across items and storage types, ensuring proper billing alignment (CBM vs. SQM)
  • These corrections eliminated discrepancies, reduced misplacements, and created a reliable foundation for accurate billing and inventory management

2. Billing Transformation

  • Built a user-friendly billing portal using Oracle Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS) to manage customer contracts and automate billing workflows
  • Enabled real-time GRN (Goods Received Notes), GDN (Goods Dispatch Notes), and Open Stock reporting.
  • Developed a custom integration between WMS → VBCS Billing Solution → OTM → Fusion Finance with OIC for seamless billing approval and invoicing.
  • Pushed all finalized billing data into Oracle Fusion Finance, enabling centralized financial visibility – OTM for ASN
  • Enabled detailed tracking of storage, handling, and value-added services (VAS) which were previously hard to capture accurately

3. Optimizing File Storage Costs

In addition to process automation, ITOrizon also helped Transworld achieve significant cost savings in IT infrastructure. During the engagement, ITOrizon team performed a root cause analysis (RCA) on unexpected file storage growth that was driving costs up to ₹2.4 lakhs per month. We discovered that nearly 2 GB of data was being written every hour about 60 GB per day resulting in unnecessary recurring expenses and it’s exponentially growing.

To resolve this, the team identified the mount target and instance causing the writes, then designed a cost-optimized storage architecture. We created an Object Storage bucket using the Archive Storage Tier, migrated database backups, stopped unnecessary mount targets, and cleaned up redundant .nfs files.

As a result, Transworld’s monthly storage cost was reduced from ₹2.4 lakhs to less than ₹100, delivering massive recurring savings while ensuring data retention and backup reliability.

4. On-going Application Managed Services

Beyond implementation, ITOrizon continues to support Transworld through Application Managed Services (AMS) for Oracle Cloud WMS, OTM, and OIC.

Key highlights of our ongoing support include:

  • Implemented a fully automated intercompany process, seamlessly integrated across systems.
  • Built a compliant integration with the Saudi Government tax portal, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Proactively analyze recurring issues and deliver permanent resolutions, keeping mission-critical systems stable and downtime-free.
  • Regularly review underutilized features within OTM and WMS and recommend practical ways to leverage them for improved efficiency and business outcomes.

Results Delivered:

  • Replaced semi-manual billing with a largely automated solution integrated tightly with Oracle WMS and Fusion Finance, automating nearly 70% of billing.
  • Delivered a user-friendly, accurate, and scalable billing application and reduced report generation from minutes to seconds.
  • Automated 60+ reports via VBCS reduced billing preparation from 1–2 minutes per query to near-instant responses.
  • Gave operations teams better control over contract billing terms, reducing errors and billing delays.
  • Supported scalability by handling a large volume of diverse customer contracts.
  • By stopping redundant mount targets, ITOrizon reduced Transworld’s data storage cost from ₹2.4 lakhs ($2,725) per month to less than ₹100 ($1.15), unlocking massive recurring savings.
  • Tight integration across WMS, OTM, and Fusion Finance improved data accuracy and delivered smooth month-end closing and reduced manual effort.
