Business Overview:
Customer is a fuel engine and generator manufacturer, specializing in diesel and alternative fuel solutions. They planned to subcontract the recycling operations to renew old engines. Though they have east and west coasts facilities, as far as WMS is concerned, they prefer to operate under single instance and serve two facilities.
Core parts and the required raw materials are procured and supplied by the client. When the raw materials are used, they are added to the work order, and finally, when the work order is complete, all the raw materials used for the work order will be consumed, and finished goods are created.
Line of Business:
- Power Technology Company
Applications in Scope:
- Oracle WMS
- Oracle Fusion
- MuleSoft Integration
ERP System:
- Oracle Fusion
Project Location:
- United States
Business Requirements and Challenges:
Unlike the standard discrete manufacturing process, the business is unable to forecast and allocate the required raw materials based on BOM. The essential parts are identified only after the core part audit and procured accordingly.
Out-of-the-box integration is not available for Work Order. MuleSoft Integration layer was utilized between Oracle Fusion and Oracle WMS, and custom design and development were inevitable.
The customer planned to consolidate multiple manufacturing facilities and ultimately sunset some. To accommodate this long-term business decision, they wanted to manage all facilities’ configurations under one instance while supporting the short-term facility functions.
ITOrizon Solution Approach:
Process Improvement
As part of the Work Order completion, users are forced to capture the accurate BOM details to maintain inventory accuracy and traceability. In turn WMS is designed to update finished goods and raw materials consumed as part of this recycling process.
Sophisticated Decision-Making Logic
Special custom logic was introduced in the Order Management level to indicate if the sales order should be fulfilled from the east coast or west coast, based on inventory, capacity, and other factors. Based on that, the work order gets routed to the appropriate facility. A single WMS instance was set up to handle pick, putaway, allocation, and shipping functionalities for both facilities. Packing slips, shipping labels, and BOLs were configured for each facility’s ship-from address based on where they are shipped from.
Customized Integration Layer
Spearheaded the business discovery of the customer’s contract manufacturing business processes, including standard and exceptional flows. Later mapped the IT systems and modules involving Oracle ecosystems to accommodate the best scalable integration design, keeping procurement, sales orders, transfers, work orders, service POs, and inventory adjustments for both manual and automatic user flows. This resulted in a seamless end-to-end integration design of sales orders, work orders, and inventory flows between Oracle Fusion and Oracle WMS.
Customer Outcome:
- Consolidating operations under a single WMS reduced customer’s costs and financial overhead.
- Custom logic in Order Management optimizes resource allocation by routing work orders based on inventory and capacity.
- The single WMS simplifies management by handling pick, putaway, allocation, and shipping for both facilities.
- Seamless integration between Oracle Fusion and Oracle WMS enables efficient management of procurement, sales orders, transfers, work orders, and inventory adjustments.
- The solution supports their goal to manage all facilities under one system, accommodating growth & future changes.
